It's the same in the west - it's clear to see which movies are marketed towards women, and which are marketed towards men.
I watched Barbie with my husband and he loved it! His takeaway was actually that it wasn't a men vs women thing, but a class thing, which I found interesting (basically anyone who isn't mega rich is struggling to do it all - though I do think there were obviously some female-specific takes in the movie).
People have too much free time at their hands and that is why they go ahead and categorise such things. Movies are mostly for entertainment and sometimes for learning. Either way, they're made for people to have a good time.
Rightly pointed out. Nice work Noyonika and Ritwik!😄
Such a lovely post and I absolutely agree! And I think it doesn’t only happen in movies, it also happens book genres as well. I am a stereotypical girl who reads romance but I really think people should stop gendering book genres, romance novels aren’t just for women. They’re for everyone.
Yup fully agree! Movies are often marketed to appeal predominantly to one gender, which is why many men assumed Barbie was exclusively for women. Similarly, films like Pushpa are geared primarily toward a male audience, with elements like action sequences, the pursuit of the heroine, and item songs. Hopefully, we’ll see a shift in this approach in the coming years to create more inclusive storytelling!
I don't know what praise to comment, cuz I am the one who has written this. Lol!
But, thanks a lot for the sweet words!!!🥰🥰
You are my closest friend ever! And I love talking to you and helping you out everyday!🫶🏻

agreed!! honestly, if people refuse to watch barbie (live-action and animated), they are severely missing out.

The animated barbie movies are some of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my life. And I’m not joking.
