Too Many Coincidences Is Not A Coincidence

I have had so many coincidences in my life.

Have you ever been the victim of this word, coincidence? I am sure you might have but a lot of people don’t notice them. Well, I do, or I should say, I was forced to do, because they were, and are happening with me frequently. In this post, I will talk about all the coincidences that I considered to write down for remembrance (because I have had a lot more but I didn’t write them down because I already had a bunch of them to worry about. LOL!) and also try, to explain the reason for this after doing a meagre research about it on the internet.

So, what’s coincidence? According to Wikipedia, “A coincidence is a remarkable concurrence of events or circumstances that have no apparent causal connection with one another.” Interesting. Try to remember, you might have experienced this at least once in your life. There’s no way you didn’t. They are so common that apparently, when one happens, we tend to brush it off like it’s nothing.

“A coincidence itself is in the eye of the beholder.” says David Spiegelhalter, the Winton Professor for the Public Understanding of Risk at the University of Cambridge. That’s true. A coincidence is never one if we don’t believe it, right? Well, partly, because even if we ignore it, voluntarily or involuntarily, it has happened and no one can deny that.

Now, Let’s talk about the coincidences that I have experienced. They are really stupid, but bear with me for a moment, because after all, “a coincidence is a coincidence”.

So, the first coincidence that I ever documented was about Goodnotes. Yes, the note taking app . I was watching a YouTube video about a person’s study routine. They were using Goodnotes. I had been wanting to install this app for my note taking since a long time. But due to an “unsupported payment mode” issue in my country, I wasn’t able to. The day I was watching this video was 6th April, 2022. Keep that in mind.

So, after watching the video, I decided to check the app on the App Store out of curiosity, and to my surprise, it was free to download . I downloaded it ASAP but decided to look for the date when they made it free. And I was shocked to see, that it was 5th April! Just a day before I watched the video.

One day, I was listening to Lana Del Rey on shuffle and one of her songs, “The Greatest” was playing. While I was listening to it, I thought, maybe the next song will be “A&W”? and coincidentally it was.

Another day, I was watching a pre-recorded show about the cuisine and culture of my city, Lucknow. It was the seat of power of the Nawabs in the 18th and 19th centuries. A Nawab was a native governor during the time of Mogul empire in India. They have been here in the present as well. One such erstwhile nawab was talking about the culture and history of Lucknow in the show. I watched it in the morning and, while watching reels on instagram during nighttime, I came across a shocking news. That erstwhile nawab who was in the show, died that day in the morning.

The other day, me and my friend were talking about the new season of Bridgeton and somehow, the conversation led us to talking about gossip girl. The moment she mentioned the show, I got a notification from twitter about an actress who starred in it.

I know you might be getting bored while reading about these stupid coincidences, but trust me, they have forced me to think about them at every moment. Please bear with me, this is the last one I'm writing here.

So, you might’ve heard about Selena Gomez’s show, “Only Murders in the Building”. I was listening to a podcast about the show where the hosts were talking to Jon Hoffman, the director, about the clothes the actors have worn in it. While listening, I was also going through the imdb page of that show, and I came across a picture of Selena (as Mabel, her character) wearing a yellow fur jacket and red beats headphones. And, at the very exact moment, Jon talked about that same look of hers in the show.

After so many coincidences, I couldn’t stop myself from finding the reason for it. Some say, it’s all about probability. Some say, it’s related to something supernatural, but I believe it’s all about the timing. You might have noticed that every single coincidence that I’ve mentioned above has been because of the crazy timing of events. The theory of synchronicity, given by Carl Jung, talks about the occurrence of meaningful coincidences (that seem to have no cause), at the exact moment of time.

Synchronicity suggests that there is a deeper meaning behind coincidences that somehow, connects them to reality. The events and our mental processes are connected in a way which is beyond the realm of cause and effect. So, I think that these coincidences often mean something even if they are as stupid as mine.

I read somewhere, those who experience a lot of coincidences in their lives are spiritually connected to the universe. I don’t know if there’s any truth in this, but we know next to nothing about the universe so, it might be possible.

At the end of the day, I can’t stop these coincidences in my life and also cannot find the reason behind it as well. There hasn’t been a concrete explanation about this yet. Let me know, if you have ever experienced any in your life. I would love to read them in the comments.
